1. Context

The Geelong Cricket Association (GCA) Life Membership policy and process is formulated in accordance with the GCA By-Laws relating to Patrons and Life Members.

2. GCA Life Membership

The honour of GCA Life Membership is bestowed upon an individual who is recognized for extraordinary and aspiring service to the Association and/or the game of cricket.

Exemplary and outstanding service would include any combination of the following attributes:

  • Positive legacy and contribution with a lasting impact on the Association from either on field and/or off field perspective.
  • Unquestionable character and sporting integrity.
  • Exemplary and meritorious contributor to the objectives of the Association.
  • Impact resulting in a point of difference to the culture, objectives and management of the Association.
  • Meritorious contribution to progressing diversity and inclusion in community cricket.
  • Service in the best interests of the Association and the Game.


3. Assessment Process

Life Membership Assessment Committee

The GCA Board will be responsible for the formation of a Life Membership Assessment Committee consisting of two existing GCA Life Members and one Independent Nominee who are not incumbent GCA Board members.
The Assessment Committee will appoint its Chairperson on receipt of a Nomination for Life Membership.

Life Membership Nomination

A Life Membership nominee must be a Member of GCA as defined by the GCA Constitution.

A written Life Member Nomination must be received by the GCA Secretary at least 4 weeks before the June GCA Board meeting in each year.

The Nominator has the responsibility to:

  • Provide a confidential written statement of support for the Nomination addressing the attributes for exemplary and outstanding service to the Association.
  • Ensure this statement also identifies a Seconder to the Nomination.
  • Be available to meet with the Assessment Committee (as required) provided the committee agrees that the Nomination is worthy of further process.

Assessment Committee Determination

The Assessment Committee will either:

  1. Provide a written recommendation of support for the Nomination to the GCA Board Secretary including the key reason(s) for this assessment.

    OR
  2. Inform the Nominator that the Nomination failed to attain the Assessment Committee’s support including the key reason(s) for this assessment.

GCA Board Consideration and Endorsement

On receipt of the Assessment Committee’s support recommendation the GCA Board will consider and decide whether to endorse the nomination for consideration and approval at the Annual Meeting of the Association.

Annual Meeting Consideration and Approval

The Association will consider any GCA Board endorsed nominations for GCA Life Membership at its Annual Meeting and may elect Life Members of the Association by a minimum 75% majority of those members present and eligible to vote.
